ClariS started with a three-person lineup on January 25, 2025, but this time we will talk about season 2 with Karen and Clara.
ClariS is a unit with Karen, who sang the opening theme “ALIVE” for the anime “Lycoris Recoil” in 2022.
Lycoris Recoil was nicknamed LycoReco and was very popular at the time, and was made into a manga and performed on stage.
It’s a very interesting work, so I hope everyone will watch LycoReco.
The main characters are two women.
Takina Inoue (hereinafter Takina) visits the elite Chisato Nishikigi (hereinafter Chisato), and the story is about how they support each other despite their class difference, and their bond deepens into an irreplaceable buddy.
That is already the second season of ClariS itself.
There is a scene where Chisato says “I’m one year older than you, huh…” after Takina introduces herself to her.
The ages of the ClariS members are unknown, but it is known that Clara is one year older than Karen.
In Japan, there is a culture of seniority, where younger people respect older people, and they use honorifics and speak politely.
For that reason, even in LycoReco, Takina initially called Chisato “Chisato-san,” and Chisato told Takina that it was okay to call her ‘Chisato’.
However, as the two of them grew more trusting, Takina began to call her ‘Chisato’.
Chisato welcomed this as they became closer.
The same is true for ClariS.
Karen initially called Clara “Clara-chan,” using the honorific title.
Like Chisato, Clara also told Karen that it was okay to call her ‘Clara’ and speak to her in a casual manner.
But from Karen’s point of view, Clara already had about five years of experience in the industry, and Karen was a fan of ClariS before joining, collecting their CDs.
Clara is someone Karen looks up to. She feels too scared to call her ‘Clara’ or talk to her casually.
The relationship between Chisato and Takina in LycoReco is the same.
Chisato is the strongest member of the group, and is in the top class, so she wears a red uniform, while Takina wears a blue uniform called the second. Chisato is of a higher rank.
The relationship between the two members of ClariS and the two members of LycoReco is very similar, which is interesting.
And the two members help each other.
I won’t go into details to avoid spoilers, but there is a scene where Chisato comforts Takina when she is depressed because her dream didn’t come true.
The scene where Chisato picks up Takina and spins her around, saying “I’m happy to have met you. I’m happy, I’m happy” is very moving.
Afterwards, Chisato successfully beats up those who had said terrible things to Takina, and makes her feel better.
Meanwhile, ClariS.
Karen had been worried about something.
ClariS started as Alice and Clara, Alice☆Clara, and Karen joined after Alice graduated.
Some fans were hoping for Alice, and Karen was worried, asking herself, “Am I the right person to be a member of ClariS?”
Seeing Karen going through such a difficult time, Clara said this at the Budokan solo live, a sacred place for Japanese artists.
“ClariS is what it is today thanks to Alice, and also thanks to Karen standing here next to me. Thank you always. (a little tearful)”
She said the thing Karen wanted to hear the most in front of the audience.
Karen was so happy that she cried, and because she was wearing a mask, she couldn’t wipe it away.
Just like Chisato, Clara protected Karen. I was so moved that I almost cried.
Let’s talk about LycoReco again.
As the story progresses, their mutual trust deepens, and Takina plays around with Chisato for her sake.
Café LycoReco, which Chisato likes to run, was running sloppy business and was constantly in the red, but Takina came up with a new menu and turned it into a profitable business.
This was the new menu item.
Takina never imagined for a second that this was similar to that.
Anyway, Café LycoReco thrived.
Café LycoReco was very important to Chisato.
Takina protected it.
Now, let’s talk about ClariS.
Clara is a great singer, a great dancer, an exceptional beauty, and she spares no effort to promote the ClariS project.
She seems perfect, but in fact she has a weak point: she can’t get up in the morning.
That’s why Karen wakes her up.
Also, Clara falls over and over for no reason.
That’s why Karen warns Clara, “There’s a step there!” and protects her from falling.
Also, I wrote earlier that Clara is good at dancing, but in fact, in the past, she was not good at dancing.
In fact, she even thought, “I don’t like dancing because it gets in the way of my singing.”
But Karen is good at dancing. Clara also highly praises Karen’s dancing.
Dance is very important when performing live.
So naturally, Karen started teaching Clara how to dance.
Clara, who has a good singing voice, taught Karen, who was not good at singing, how to sing.
They were teacher and student to each other. They grew together.
In this way, they help each other.
In LycoReco, there is a scene where Takina saves Chisato, which is a highlight.
